Saâdane Afif, Lyrics
As part of the exhibition "L'Écoute essaimée", the Listening Room welcomes the Lyrics of SaâdaneAfif, works belonging to the collections of the National Center for Plastic Arts.
Evoked metaphorically or produced, sound occupies an important place in the work of Saâdane Afif (in the same way as writing) taking place physically in space, in the form of sound pieces to listen to with headphones, installations, recordings, or in the form of concerts. In addition, sound is present in the work of Saâdane Afif through the space of the song, whether it constitutes a sound event or whether it exists in the immaterial mode of language, as speech or score. The song represents a mediating entity between the artist, the community of his friends, and his audience. It designates a collaborative work, a delegated gesture Thus, Melancolic Beat includes texts by Lili Reynaud-Dewar on music by Portradium and Tujiko Noriko; Down at The Rock and Roll Club, texts by Tom Morton with music by Rainier Lericolais and Marcelline Delbecq; One Million BPM, texts by Mick Peter, with music by Julien Perez; and the Best of, texts by Maxime Matray on music from the Label Semishigure by Robert Meijer.
The allographic course of the work consists in reinscribing the song in a stretched process of creation: interpreted on the piano by the accompaniments of Louis-Philippe Scoufaras, it becomes again a score generated by an automatic score creation software.
In this perspective of a relay game, the Lyrics are indeed this “work made of the interpretation of others, which questions this indefinite and reciprocal place where the passage (musical: the chord) from the singular to the plural takes place. » Sylvie Cöellier, As long as the art of song does not die, The Lyrics of Saâdane Afif, 2008.
