Housed within the Commanderie Sainte-Luce, the Library-Archive is used every day by the museum team and acts as a special resource on art history. Access is available on request to researchers, students, teachers and museum visitors.
Its mission is closely linked to that of the museum, and is particularly geared towards studying and raising awareness of the permanent collections.
To achieve this mission, it :
- collects, indexes and updates the documents necessary for scientific work relating to the museum's collections and temporary exhibitions.
- preserves, enriches, takes the necessary scientific measures and promotes access to the documentary collection. The Library itself contains several thousand works and collections of specialist magazines, as well as sound, iconographic and audiovisual documents.
It has a particularly rich collection of modern and contemporary art exhibition catalogues.
The areas it covers correspond to the main preoccupations of the museum - photography, drawing, sculpture, sound art - and the artists represented in the museum.
The museum's Archive staff play an active part in preparing exhibitions; they compile extensive files of works and artists, preserving documents and archive items which record the life of the works and the history of the museum itself.
The documentary resources can be consulted on the premises, by prior appointment. Contact 00 33 (0)4 90 49 36 98
