On the principle of an ABC.... : In the form of an open dialogue with the public, this programme of gatherings launched in 2006 explored the museum's collections and the vocabulary of contemporary art.
The notion of black in photography was approached by comparing two images - Saint-Trophime (1996) by Bruno Cattani, and Théâtre antique, mai 1990 by Vasco Ascolini - both from the "Italian school", which features significantly in the museum's collections. The first focusses on notions of appearance and disappearance, placing people and statues in a suspended interspace, while the second, through the density of black in the images, seems to remodel space and suspend time.
