In 2019, the daughters of Harold Ambellan, Anne and Zoé, donated to the city of Arles 125 drawings representative of the entire career of this American sculptor who lived in Arles from 1980 to 2006. After a first hanging dedicated to works produced in the United States then in Paris and in the south of France (Cagnes-sur-Mer, Antibes) between 1949 and 1979, it is the turn of drawings from the Arles period (1980-2004) to be promoted at the heart of the permanent collections. Exhibited close to the Picasso donation - artist to whom Harold Ambellan sometimes pays homage - and the sculptures of Ossip Zadkine, of whom he was a friend, the donation fits perfectly into the museum's collection, which cultivates a pronounced taste for the sculptor's drawing.
