FESTIVAL DU DESSIN
The joy of innocence
Jean Dubuffet / Robert Coutelas
One is universally renowned as the father of Art Brut – a new way of thinking about art – and spent forty years disregarding any pre-established rules, only abiding by the principle of reinventing our relationship with the world by ridding it of acquired concepts. The other was a painter from a poor family, a stonemason by training, who turned his back on the art world as soon as it began to notice him, choosing instead to live in obscurity and poverty. Both men used drawing as their preferred means of creative freedom and continual reinvention; through their eyes, we can experience the miracle of rediscovering the dizziness of childhood.
